Morro da Urca ( Urca Hill) |
This walk starts at Cláudio Coutinho Track or the so-called “Caminho do Bem-te-vi” (Flycatcher Way) which is 1,250 meters long, going round the bottom of Morro da Urca!
With some luck and starting early in the morning, we may see birds such as “Tiê Sangue” (the Saddle Tanager bird), “Gavião Casaca de Ouro” (Rufous Crested cachalote) and “Bem-te-vi” (Flycatcher), as well as animals such as Mico Estrela (Wied’s Marmoset) or “Saguim”.
The area inspires sport practitioners, from runners to cyclists, and especially climbers.
The track is steep at the beginning and alternates with smoother sections. It takes 40 minutes to reach the plateau, where you will be able to enjoy the beautiful landscape of Baía da Guanabara (Guanabara Bay) and Rio de Janeiro downtown area. The track continues to Morro da Urca, where the first passenger cable car terminal station is located. The group may use the same track to descend or get on the cable cars.
The meeting point is located at Praia Vermelha Beach, in front of the entrance to Cláudio Coutinho Track (to the left of the beach walk) at 8:00 a.m.
Price includes stretching exercises both before and after the activity, a snack on track and insurance against personal accidents.

Pedra da Gávea (Gavea Rock) |
Possibly the city’s most enchanting walk. The landscape seen from the summit of Gavea Rock is stunning. The track takes 2 hours of steep uphill climbing, with a section that can only be reached using both feet and hands, plus safety equipment.
But the greatest reward awaits you at the top: you will see the entire city below your feet. From Baía da Guanabara (Guanabara Bay), you will see all the southern region, the downtown area, the mountain city region, Niterói, Barra, Baixada de Jacarepaguá and, in clearer days, you may even see Baía de Sepetiba (Sepetiba Bay).
Pedra da Gávea (Gavea Rock) is one of the world’s highest mountains projecting straight down into the sea; it is surrounded by stories and legends of Phoenician kings and princes and even an imagined treasure that was buried somewhere inside the mountain caves. Apart from the legends, getting to the top of the 842-meter high mountain is worth the adventure.
Price includes stretching exercises both before and after the activity, a snack on track and insurance against personal accidents.
